Gerber Fastball Liner Lock Flipper Knife Flat Sage vs Ontario RAT Model 2

I'm hoping this smooths out over time. Given that I absolutely love everything else about the Fastball, I'm gonna keep fiddling with it to see if it starts to wear down to a more reasonable level. If not, I may open it up and try to file down the nub, but that's risky. But so far my search for the perfect knife continues

I've had other thumb stud opening knives that opened fully much more robustly. That said, I may have to tune it a bit and exercise it until it wears in. Overall, though, a nicely made knife.

Now for the honest part. It isn't worth 100 dollars. The detent is way to strong, the grind is uneven as you can see from the picture, and the grip on the blade to flip it out is too aggressive (I belive a flaw in manufacturing due to the "gnarlyness" of it in picture). It hurts to open

But now for the bad things- first, the price that they are asking for is WAY TO HIGH- I could find this exact knife on other websites at a price way lower (40% lower than what I paid). The 2nd problem relates to the knife, a few weeks after I bought it I saw rust forming on the blade. Not a lot of rust, I took some steel wool to it and that removed the rust, but it rusted too easily for me to feel comfortable neglecting the knife. I live in a dry place and but it had been raining before I noticed the rust, so maybe the moisture in the air played a role

Overall, I'm happy with my folding cleaver and keep it with me all the time. I recommend it.

The pocket knife is very hefty; you can feel the weight of the knife in your hand which is very good when holding the knife for cutting. With just under five inches of handle, even extra large hands can get a comfortable grip. It doesn't cut paper, i actually tried to cut myself and it was like a bakery knife. I only gave 2 stars due to me liking the form factor of the knife, but it's a paper weight until I learn to sharpen D2.

2) The knife is big but not heavy. I have other knives of similar size and design that feel almost twice as heavy both in my hand and my pocket. This one is thin enough and light enough that I can almost forget it is in my pocket. Doesn't block my hand from getting things out of my pocket

Get an Ontario Rat in D2 steel, a bottle of mineral oil from the pharmacy, a lansky turnbox, and a set of Wiha torx bits with a driver.

The smooth aluminum handles are easy on your pockets, making the knife a joy to draw out and use. I think the carry-ability factor of this knife is another high point.
