Victorinox Fibrox vs Wüsthof Chef's knife

After looking around for a week or so, I kept seeing the Fibrox come up as the best value budget knife, and that the Swiss modern was the upgraded version with a better handle. Just so happened to be my birthday this month so asked for this from my Dad. Is asking for kitchen appliances for your birthday one of the first signs of getting old?.

It looks like it’s been stuffed in someone’s junk drawer for a few years, the corners and edges are all beat up, plus they put the bar code sticker on the clear front panel so any appeal it had was ruined. I tried to remove it and the result of my efforts is in the above photo. I know we’ll love the knife but I’m very underwhelmed to be gifting it this way to my husband, especially for the price.

About 5 years ago I shelled out for All-Clad stainless steel cookware. I cook most of my daily meals from scratch and they look just as good as the day I bought them. Plus, no worries about toxic non-stick coating breaking down over time.

De-boning a whole chicken takes half the time without it looking like I ran it through a meat grinder when I'm done. I like the look and feel of this knife, and won't try to go into all of the technical details like I'm an informed knife connoisseur, because I'm not. I'm just someone who likes to cook for my family, and in that capacity this was a good investment. I hope to add to this knife in the future and eventually have a set

I'm pleased with the ease of this chief knife's blade cutting and dicing but the handle is all plastic feel, something that gives me the willies . The fit is okay, I've got a medium size woman's hand , seems to me the handle is overly large and i'll bet my sons might like this chef's knife more than myself

Likelwise, nice looking wood handles, I just far prefer a grippy ergonomic handle because I often deal with fatty/oily meat/food, like charcuterie.

Overall it's a great knife so far, my only gripe is that the weight and texture (of the handle) feel very commercial. That's not the worst thing in the world but I like a little indulgence in my home use products.

Of all the knives I have used, this is my favorite. From the moment you pick it up, you'll realize the weight compared to popular brands that are made produced for people that don't know any better. However, you should do your research about knives in general and understand what your preference is. You must know what you need to get the most out of this tool
